{"id":667,"date":"2025-11-28T09:33:56","date_gmt":"2025-11-28T10:33:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/textosbreves.com\/?p=667"},"modified":"2026-01-12T12:02:48","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T12:02:48","slug":"55-founding-organisations-join-uk-packaging-pact-ahead-of-april-2026-launch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/textosbreves.com\/index.php\/2025\/11\/28\/55-founding-organisations-join-uk-packaging-pact-ahead-of-april-2026-launch\/","title":{"rendered":"55 founding organisations join UK Packaging Pact ahead of April 2026 launch"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-beyondwords-player=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<h4><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-539084 size-full lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"Packaging Pact\" width=\"860\" height=\"516\" data-src=\"https:\/\/textosbreves.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/iStock-1765329424.jpg\"><\/h4>\n<h4>Ahead of the official launch of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wrap.ngo\/take-action\/uk-packaging-pact\">UK Packaging Pact<\/a> in April 2026, WRAP has announced the names of the 55 founding organisations who have signed up.<\/h4>\n<p>The UK Packaging Pact, the successor to the UK Plastics Pact, is a new voluntary agreement that widens the original scope to all materials commonly used in packaging.<\/p>\n<p>A wider range of sectors are also involved in the new programme, which is supported by PackUK, the UK Government, and led by global environmental action NGO WRAP.<\/p>\n<p>Now organisations producing products from food and drink, beauty care, pet products and household goods can join the Pact which commits them to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Optimise packaging;<\/li>\n<li>Scale reuse and refill;<\/li>\n<li>Support circular infrastructure investment, and;<\/li>\n<li>Harmonise data \u2013 to improve traceability for more impactful decision making.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>WRAP says the\u00a0UK Packaging Pact\u00a0will transform how packaging is designed, used, and recovered to reduce waste and emissions, protect nature, and put citizens needs at the heart of packaging decisions.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the launch, Catherine David, CEO, WRAP, said: \u201cCollaboration works and it\u2019s delivering real change. Unrecyclable black plastic is gone, recycling is rising, and unnecessary packaging is disappearing. But the scale of the challenge demands more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must accelerate the step change to circular living, driving reuse, tackling plastic film, and enabling the impact of upcoming recycling reforms. This is collective action at its most ambitious and essential, and WRAP is proud to lead the charge toward a truly circular future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of its 2026 launch, fifty-five founding members have signed up including retailers ASDA, Arla, Lidl, Ocado Retail, Tesco, and Yeo Valley. Major waste management companies Biffa, SUEZ Recycling Recovery UK Ltd and Veolia have also signed the Pact, as well as the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM).<\/p>\n<p>WRAP says the\u00a0UK Packaging Pact\u00a0will serve as a\u00a0\u2018test-bed\u2019 and feedback mechanism for future regulation as Extended Producer Responsibility for packaging (EPR), Simpler Recycling, and Deposit Return Schemes (DRS) move into implementation.<\/p>\n<p>Mary Creagh,\u00a0Circular Economy Minister, commented:\u00a0\u201cGovernment and businesses must ensure packaging is used time and time again.
